Judiciary Receives The 2013 Public Sector Innovations Award.
The Judiciary on Thursday February 27, 2014 received the 2013 Public Sector Innovations\r\nAward in recognition of its efforts in improving service delivery.
\r\n
\r\nThe ceremony, was graced by the Acting Chief Justice, Hon.\r\nJustice Steven Kavuma and was held at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
\r\n
\r\nThe award is in recognition of the Judiciary’s Small Claims\r\nProcedure; a mechanism of solving civil disputes on claims not exceeding UGX 10M. Such a procedure, which is informal, can be completed in one day, without the involvement of lawyers. The award was set up by Public Service ministry.
\r\nSupported by the Danish Government through its development\r\nflagship Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), the Small Claims\r\nProcedure is operational in the courts of Mengo, Masaka, Kabale, Arua, Mbale,\r\nMakindye, Jinja, Mbarara, Nakawa, Lira and Nabweru.

\r\nThe procedure is scheduled to be introduced to other parts of\r\nthe country in the course of the year.
